The year has begun on a cash-saving move for film lovers. The first edition of the Cinema Lovers Day of 2025 is all set to take place this Friday, that is, January 17. As it happens on this day, most theatres and multiplexes across the country will sell movie tickets for normal seats at a discounted price of Rs. 99. The move is expected to lead to an increase in footfalls and also in revenue.

The biggest beneficiary of this offer will be the new Hindi releases, namely Emergency and Azaad. Emergency features Kangana Ranaut in the role of the ex-Prime Minister of India, Indira Gandhi. Kangana also directs this film which also stars Milind Soman, Anupam Kher, Mahima Chaudhry, Anupam Kher and others.

Azaad, meanwhile, marks the debut of Ajay Devgn’s nephew Aaman Devgan and Raveena Tandon’s daughter Rasha Thadani. It is directed by Abhishek Kapoor of Rock On (2008) and Kedarnath (2018) fame. Ajay Devgn also stars in the film in a dynamic role.

From the holdover releases, Pushpa 2 might stand a chance as the extended cut will make it to cinemas on January 17. It features 20 minutes of additional footage; fans of the series might venture to cinemas to find out what was cut in the original version. The discounted rate can also be a huge factor.

Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, meanwhile, is doing great and it remains to be seen if its collections jump on January 17 since its tickets anyway are priced at around Rs. 150. The same applies to Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai, which was re-released on January 10.

The other holdover releases which will take benefit of the Cinema Lovers Day offer are Fateh, Game Changer, Mufasa: The Lion King, Nosferatu etc.

Apart from Emergency and Azaad, two Hollywood films will also get the advantage of the offer. These two films are the scare fest Wolf Man and potential Oscar contender A Real Pain. Lastly, Satya will re-release on January 17 and fans of Bhiku Mhatre are in for a treat as they can catch the classic for just Rs. 99.

The much-loved film Gully Boy, directed by Zoya Akhtar, will celebrate six years of its release next month. Recent reports reveal that a sequel is in the works, with Vicky Kaushal and Ananya Panday expected to play the lead roles. Directed by Arjun Varain Singh, who previously helmed Kho Gaye Hum Kahan, the sequel aims to capture the essence of the original while introducing fresh characters.

A report by Filmfare quoted a source saying, “Arjun Varain Singh is slated to direct the Gully Boy sequel. He’s confident that Ananya will be the perfect lead, while Vicky has been attached to the project for some time now.”

Gully Boy, inspired by the lives of street rappers Divine and Naezy, tells the story of Murad, a young aspiring rapper from Mumbai’s slums. Played by Ranveer Singh, Murad’s journey of overcoming socio-economic challenges to pursue his musical dreams resonated with audiences nationwide. Alia Bhatt’s portrayal of Safeena and Siddhant Chaturvedi’s role as MC Sher added depth to the narrative. The film, which also featured Vijay Varma, Amruta Subhash, Vijay Raaz, and Kalki Koechlin, earned widespread acclaim for its depiction of India’s hip-hop culture.
Arjun Varain Singh Takes the Director’s Chair
The report further added that the Gully Boy sequel will see a change in direction, with Arjun Varain Singh stepping in. Having worked with Ananya Panday on Kho Gaye Hum Kahan, Singh believes she is an ideal choice for the role. Vicky Kaushal’s association with the project has generated excitement, as the actor’s versatility aligns well with the film’s gritty narrative.
Upcoming Projects of Vicky Kaushal and Ananya Panday
Vicky Kaushal has an impressive lineup of films, including Chhaava, where he portrays Sambhaji Maharaj, and Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Love and War. He will also play Parashurama in the epic Mahavatar, slated for release in December 2026. Meanwhile, Ananya Panday is gearing up for Chand Mera Dil, a romantic drama opposite Lakshya.

While it is being re-released as a Valentine’s Day special, the film originally hit cinemas on August 18, 2017. In fact, last year, the filmmaker even dropped unseen BTS pictures from the film along with a heartfelt note sharing memories from the making of the movie, wherein she wrote, “Gratitude for the love ❤ And specially to you Amma, the cinema lover. I made Bareilly ki Barfi when the kids were 5 years old. But with your insane confidence in me and telling that there is no reason to feel guilty to follow your dream. “I am there “Your words gave me the wings to follow the unknown path. Now when i look back there are so many anecdotes that I will savour always. I hope I continue to tell stories from the heart and make you proud”.

Hrithik Roshan is on a roll right now. His debut film Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai was re-released in cinemas on January 10, on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the blockbuster. January 10 also happened to be his birthday. A day before, on January 9, a special screening of the film was organized by Radio Nasha where Hrithik interacted with his fans like never before.

Before the screening, held at a multiplex in Mumbai, Hrithik Roshan quipped, “I am here not to celebrate the film. I hoped that no one would watch the film again because pol kabhi bhi khul sakti hai, even 25 years later! I am here for you guys. I want to celebrate you and your love.”

The host asked if it was true that he was not prepared for his debut film. Hrithik Roshan replied, “I am never prepared for anything! I have to work very hard. It was a shock when my dad (Rakesh Roshan) was making this film with me. He was discussing a story which was supposedly for some actor or some star. (I assumed that) it was for Shah Rukh Khan or Salman Khan or Aamir Khan. Halfway through the narration, I started to complain that ‘Papa, this is not going to suit all these stars. I have seen them do all of this in their initial films’. He replied, ‘Shut up, I am making this film with you’! Hence, yes, it was a bit of a shock.”

Hrithik Roshan continued, “I quietly went to my room. I didn’t know what to do. He came behind me and asked ‘What happened?’. I said, ‘Nothing’. He said, ‘Be ready in 4 months’. He replied, ‘Ok then. 6 months’! That’s how it started.”

The host then played a ‘this or that’ game with Hrithik and the fans, mentioning different films of the star. When she asked ‘Dhoom 2 or War’, the audience was left divided. Hrithik Roshan answered, “That is difficult as War 2 is coming up now. I am preparing for the big dance number now. I hope my leg stays strong! In that context, let’s choose War as I have got to be ready for that dance number.”

Bollywood Hungama was the first one to reveal way back in April 2024 that Hrithik Roshan and Jr. NTR will feature in ‘Jai Jai Shivshankar’ meets ‘Naatu Naatu’ out-and-out massy dance song in War 2. Composed by Pritam, it’s said to be one of the highlights of the film.”

When asked ‘Bang Bang or Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara’, the fans chose the latter. On this, Hrithik said, “I agree. It’s a forever film. That is a film I’ll be proud of for life. I don’t think that film will age.” A female admirer shouted ‘Part 2 chahiye’ and the fans agreed with her.

Hrithik Roshan, meanwhile, was overwhelmed by the adulation from the fans. When the host mentioned ’25 years of Hrithik Roshan’, he corrected her, “25 years of love. If you are going to celebrate me, I am going to exit!”

Bollywood Hungama was the first one to report in December 2024 that Ram Gopal Varma’s cult flick Satya (1998) is all set to re-release on January 17. Now Bollywood Hungama has learned that a special screening of the film will be held to celebrate its re-release. Popular radio station, Radio Nasha, has taken the initiative to organize the screening on Wednesday, January 15, at a multiplex in Mumbai.

A source told Bollywood Hungama, “As it happens for Nasha Premiere Nights, the screening will be graced by the cast and crew of the film. They’ll go down memory lane and speak about the film, memories of shooting it, etc. A lot of trivia, which has never come out before, is expected to be divulged by the team members of Satya. However, unlike other Nasha Premiere Nights events, the screening will take place first followed by the Q-and-A with the cast and crew. Usually, it’s the other way round.”

When asked who would be present at the screening, the source replied, “Ram Gopal Varma has confirmed his presence. The actors of the film like Manoj Bajpayee, Saurabh Shukla, Shefali Shah, Urmila Matondkar, etc. are also expected.” Satya had unforgettable music by Vishal Bhardwaj. The lyrics were penned by Gulzar and it remains to be seen if the duo and also the lead actor Chakravarthy along with writer Anurag Kashyap also make it to Satya’s re-release premiere.

The source further said, “The premiere is expected to become a talking point as all of them probably never came together. Some of them did when the film completed 25 years in 2023 but this one is expected to be bigger. Also, lucky fans will get a chance to watch the film ahead of its re-release and in the presence of these stalwarts.”

Satya was the story of a man who comes to Mumbai looking for a job and gets drawn into the underworld. The film was loved for its realistic treatment, dialogues, songs and performances. Manoj Bajpayee’s portrayal of Bhiku Mhatre made him an actor to watch out for.

Now, latest reports have hinted at Wamiqa Gabbi playing the leading lady in this entertainer.

Sources claim that the Baby John actress is the frontrunner in the race

A Mid-day report opened up about this latest development in the Shaktimaan-inspired film as it reportedly quoted a source saying, “While discussions are still ongoing, the potential pairing of Wamiqa and Ranveer in Basil’s film would bring a fresh dynamic to a project that’s been in development for five years”. It is being said that the film is currently in the pre-production stage and that Basil Joseph has been holding multiple meetings with Ranveer to discuss the project. According to these reports, the film’s script too is underway. “Once the script is locked and schedules are finalized, the casting will be confirmed,” asserted the source.

About Shaktimaan – the film

The film has been sparking several rumours ever since its inception. Produced by Sajid Nadiadwala in association with Sony Pictures India, the film is expected to bring back the nostalgic value of the 90s superhero. However, in an earlier report, Mukesh Khanna, who originally played the character in the television series and gained love and immense acceptance from audiences, have insisted that Singh will not be a part of it.

Wamiqa Gabbi’s upcoming projects

Wamiqa Gabbi, who is basking in the rave reviews that came her way for her character of a teacher and undercover cop in Baby John, has kicked off the shoot of a romantic comedy entertainer in Goa titled Dil Ka Darwaza Khol Na Darling, directed by Vikas Bahl and starring Siddhant Chaturvedi as well as Jaya Bachchan. The actress has also a few other releases like the Akshay Kumar starrer Bhoot Bangla, Adivi Sesh starrer G2, among others in pipeline this year.
