After much anticipation, the political drama Emergency starring Kangana Ranaut has received censor clearance and is now scheduled for a theatrical release on January 17, 2025. As readers would be aware, the film, inspired by true events, had to face a long battle of censorship considering that it revolved around a very controversial and turbulent period of emergency from the 1970s.

Taking to social media, Kangana Ranaut shared a poster from the film which also included Anupam Kher, Shreyas Talpade, Milind Soman, among others. The film has Kangana Ranaut essaying the role of the former Prime Minister and the only female Prime Minister of India, Indira Gandhi along with Anupam Kher as politician and activist Jayaprakash Narayan, Shreyas Talpade as Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Mahima Chaudhary as Pupal Jayakar, Milind Soman as Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw, among others. One of the most celebrated films in Indian cinema, Karan Arjun (1995), starring Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan, is gearing up for a grand re-release on November 22, 2024. Directed by Rakesh Roshan, this blockbuster will mark the biggest worldwide re-release ever for a Hindi film. In a conversation with Bollywood Hungama, Rakesh Roshan reminisced about working with the two superstars during the making of the film.

“A Simpler Time on Set”: Roshan on Working with Shah Rukh and Salman
When asked about the difference between working with stars then and now, Rakesh Roshan fondly recalled the simpler times of filmmaking in the 1990s.

“You won’t believe it,” he shared. “I made the entire film in 80-90 days. When we went for outdoor shoots, Shah Rukh’s room was 15 by 15 feet, and Salman’s was the same. Kajol and the others had similar rooms too. There was an ashram nearby, under construction. There were no hotels in that village. I gave them money and asked them to turn it into a hotel. I said, ‘Build a bathroom in every room.’ They said the rooms would become smaller, and I replied, ‘No problem. Just put an AC and a bathroom.’ Shah Rukh and Salman stayed there.”
“Like Waking Up Kids”: The Stars’ Morning Routine
On being asked about the difference in acting styles between Shah Rukh and Salman, Roshan noted how their personalities blended seamlessly with their characters:

“When we were making the film, it never felt like acting. Shah Rukh behaved exactly like Arjun, and Salman was just like Karan. I would personally wake them up in the mornings. Many times, I would go to their rooms at 6 AM and say, ‘Shah Rukh, wake up.’ It was like waking up children. Salman, on seeing me, would pull a pillow over his face and say, ‘I’m getting ready.’ I would insist, ‘No, no, go to the bathroom and bathe.’ I wouldn’t leave their rooms until they were fully ready.”

Aamir Khan is working to repair his relationship with his daughter, Ira Khan. The actor shared that they are attending joint therapy to address and resolve their issues. In a Netflix India video, Aamir joined Ira and Dr. Vivek Murthy to discuss mental health.

During the chat Aamir said, “Therapy is so helpful. I think she (Ira) pushed me down that path. I would strongly recommend therapy to anyone who feels the need for it? It has been helpful for me. In fact, Ira and I also have started joint therapy. The two of us go to a therapist for our own relationship. To work on how to make that better and issues which have been there for over years.”

In a candid conversation on Rhea Chakraborty’s podcast “Chapter 2,” Aamir Khan expressed regret over his absence from his children’s lives, which he believes contributed to his decision to leave the film industry.

Aamir Khan, a prominent figure in Indian cinema for over three decades, acknowledged that the pandemic gave him a harsh wake-up call about his priorities. He admitted that his intense career focus had led him to miss key moments in the lives of his three children — Ira, Junaid, and Azad.

Aamir Khan recalled the struggles his children faced during his absence and expressed deep regret. He reflected, “Ira was struggling with depression at the time, she is much better now. But then she needed me. Junaid is starting his career. He has lived his life without me. And now, perhaps he is taking the last big step in his life, towards his career. If I am not with him at this time, then what’s the point? Azad is 9 years now. In another 3 years, he will be a teenager. His childhood won’t come back.”

Ira is Aamir’s daughter from his first marriage to Reena Dutta, with whom he also has a son, Junaid. The couple divorced in 2002. Ira made her directorial debut in 2019 with the play Euripides’ Medea, starring Hazel Keech. Aamir also has a son, Azad Rao Khan, with his second wife, Kiran Rao, from whom he announced their separation in July.

Despite the restrictions, the singer entertained a packed stadium, taking a humorous yet pointed approach to the censorship.

Telangana Govt’s Ban on Diljit’s Songs
The Telangana government had earlier issued an order prohibiting Diljit from performing songs referencing alcohol, drugs, and violence during his Hyderabad concert. While performing, Diljit subtly criticized the decision without naming anyone directly.

“When artists come to India from other countries, they are allowed to do whatever they like, sing whatever they want, koi tension nahin… But when an artist from your own country is singing, people have so many problems,” he remarked.

Actor and Shiv Sena leader Govinda was rushed to a Mumbai hospital on Saturday after experiencing health issues during a roadshow in Jalgaon as part of his campaign for the MahaYuti alliance. According to a report by IANS, the incident occurred while the actor was addressing voters in Pachora, one of the stops in his campaign across Muktainagar, Bodwad, Pachora, and Chopda.

Health Concerns During Campaign
Initially, Govinda reported mild physical discomfort but soon began experiencing severe chest pain and leg discomfort. Following doctors’ advice, he was urgently airlifted to a Mumbai hospital for immediate medical attention. His family accompanied him during the emergency transfer, and he received initial treatment upon arrival.

As of now, Govinda has not issued a statement about his condition, leaving fans and supporters concerned.
Campaign for MahaYuti in Jalgaon
Govinda has been an active supporter of the MahaYuti alliance, campaigning for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Shiv Sena, and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP). During the roadshow, he encouraged citizens to support Prime Minister Narendra Modi by voting for the ruling coalition. Unfortunately, the actor had to cut short his event in Pachora due to his deteriorating health.

This recent health emergency comes just weeks after Govinda accidentally injured himself with a gunshot wound. On October 1, while cleaning his revolver at home, the weapon discharged, causing a bullet to hit his leg. The Novex Musical Copyright License for marriages is indeed a hot topic, especially with Indian weddings becoming increasingly lavish and extravagant and the marriage season about to start. Recently, the Government of India released a public notice putting their previous notice, dated July 24, 2023, into abeyance. This earlier notice stated that musical copyright licenses weren’t required for wedding events.

However, Novex appealed this decision before the Punjab and Haryana High Court, leading to the government’s reversal. Now, all social events, including weddings, bachelor parties, sangeets, cocktail parties, mehendi ceremonies, receptions, and similar functions, require careful study and scrutiny by NOVEX’s legal team.

To play copyrighted music at these events, hotels and event management companies must obtain permission or a license from Novex. This means they can’t play copyrighted songs or music without Novex’s consent. The Copyright Act, 1957, defines “copyright” as the exclusive right to perform or authorize performance of a work in public.

In essence, the court’s decision in Novex Communications Pvt. Ltd. vs Union of India & Ors. established that DJ performances and similar events in a marriage are not covered under Section 52(1)(za) of the Copyright Act, as they’re not necessary for the religious ceremony.

In an exclusive interview with esteemed Event and Film trade analyst Rajeev Chaudhari, Pratik Gandhi, Legal Advisor of NOVEX COMMUNICATIONS P. LTD, shed light on the vital importance of obtaining Novex NOC for corporate and social events. Gandhi emphasized, “Securing a Novex NOC is mandatory for event organizers utilizing Novex-licensed music. This certification ensures compliance with India’s Musical Copyright Act, safeguarding the rights of music creators and supporting the Bollywood music industry.”

Gandhi stressed that Novex NOC is essential for Corporate events (conferences, product launches, etc.), social events (weddings with sangeets and mehendi and bachelor parties, etc.). Failure to obtain Novex NOC may result in Copyright infringement, Legal repercussions and Damage to reputation.
