The biopic on human rights activist Jaswant Singh Khalra, Punjab ’95, starring Diljit Dosanjh, has been embroiled in a contentious battle with the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) for over two years. The film, directed by Honey Trehan and produced by Ronnie Screwvala, has faced significant resistance from the board, demanding numerous changes to its content. These changes, which include rechristening the film and renaming Khalra’s character, have not been well-received by the Sikh community or the martyr’s family. The Sikh community views these alterations as an attempt to dilute the film’s message and obscure its historical accuracy.

As per a report in Mid-Day, in response to the CBFC’s demands, the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC), a prominent Sikh organization, has stepped in to support the film. The SGPC has now received instructions from the Akal Takht, the highest temporal authority of Sikhs, to form a review board to examine the Diljit Dosanjh-starrer.

Gurcharan Singh Grewal, General Secretary of the SGPC, expressed the community’s concerns about the CBFC’s cuts. He stated that the Khalra family believes that the changes would diminish the film’s impact by removing references to events verified by legal and human rights institutions. Such modifications could distort the historical accuracy and significance of the film.

The Akal Takht’s Jathedar, Giani Raghbir Singh, has called for a panel of Sikh scholars to thoroughly review the film and ensure its alignment with the community’s sentiments and integrity. The SGPC aims to consult Sikh scholars and examine the film from all perspectives before its release. They are determined to fight for the film’s release in its original form, preserving Khalra’s legacy.

The committee being formed by the SGPC will include legal experts and academics knowledgeable about the politics of that era. This comprehensive review will be conducted in the coming weeks.

Meanwhile, the film’s makers, Trehan and Screwvala, have yet to receive a response from the CBFC regarding the film’s certification. However, the recent intervention by the Akal Takht and SGPC has instilled hope in the makers. They are now considering the possibility of not making any cuts to the film at all, even the original 22 suggested by the CBFC. If the Sikh bodies approve of the film in its original form, the makers are prepared to fight for its release without any modifications.

Set in the turbulent 1990s Amritsar, Punjab ’95 revolves around Jaswant Singh Khalra, a seemingly ordinary bank employee and human rights activist, who leads a middle-class life with his librarian wife and two young children. His desire for a peaceful existence is shattered when he learns about the disappearance of his friend’s mother, Bibi Gurpej. As Khalra delves deeper into the investigation, he uncovers a dangerous web of secrets, putting himself and his family at risk.

Directed by Honey Trehan and produced by Ronnie Screwvala in association with MacGuffin Pictures, Punjab ’95 also features Arjun Rampal and Surinder Vicky in pivotal roles.

While it was initially expected that Lahore: 1947 would be released during the Republic Day 2025 weekend, new developments have revealed a change in plans. According to a report by Pinkvilla, Sunny Deol will now be releasing Jatt, directed by Gopichand Malineni, on the Republic Day weekend, with Lahore: 1947 delayed to a later date.

Jatt Set to Dominate Republic Day 2025 Weekend
After the resounding success of Gadar 2, expectations are high for Sunny Deol’s next ventures. Jatt, a high-octane action entertainer directed by Gopichand Malineni, will be Deol’s first major release post-Gadar 2. According to the report, the Republic Day weekend in 2025 is being eyed as the ideal time to release the film.

“The official announcement around the release date will be made soon, but they are aiming at this date for the arrival of Jatt,” the report quoted a source. The movie is being produced by Mythri Production, with Sunny Deol playing the titular role of a larger-than-life Jatt. “Sunny’s character in Jatt will have larger-than-life traits, and the film will feature a patriotic flavor, making Republic Day the perfect time for its release,” the source added.
A Patriotic and Action-Packed Entertainer
Jatt is shaping up to be a big-budget action entertainer that’s expected to resonate with Deol’s fan base. The film is described as having a strong emotional core and larger-than-life action sequences, which are typical of Deol’s earlier hits. The source added, “It’s a big-budget action entertainer with a strong emotional core – a genre that Sunny has excelled at in his career. Lahore: 1947 Release Postponed
While Jatt is now taking the Republic Day 2025 weekend slot, fans of Sunny Deol’s Lahore: 1947 will have to wait a bit longer. The film, which is being produced by Aamir Khan and directed by Rajkumar Santoshi, is now expected to release sometime between March and June 2025. According to sources, post-production work on Lahore: 1947 is still in progress, with particular attention being given to the historical visuals and aesthetics of the partition era.

“The post-production work is going on in full swing under the supervision of director Rajkumar Santoshi, and the makers don’t want to compromise on the visuals of partition, as also the aesthetics of the era gone by,” a source stated. A release date for Lahore: 1947 will be announced once the first edit is complete.

Aamir Khan, who is also working on Sitaare Zameen Par, is expected to coordinate the release dates of both films to ensure they don’t overlap.

In addition to Jatt and Lahore: 1947, Sunny Deol has several other big projects in the pipeline, including Ramayana and Border 2.

The jury is out on Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3. Kartik Aaryan and director Anees Bazmee are already on to the fourth phase of the fearful-funny fest.

A source very close to the development said, “It would be no exaggeration to say that the Bhool Bhulaiyaa franchise is blooming. While BB2 was a laugh riot, BB3 has turned out even better.”

A sneak preview of the film revealed Kartik Aaryan and Anees Bazmee are at the top of the game, with Vidya Balan and Madhuri Dixit augmenting the zest for a fear-funny fest with a collaborative chemistry not seen in any recent film.

The big news on the Bhool Bhulaiyaa franchise is that Part 4 is already in the pipeline. “The producers T-Series are super-confident that Part 3 would beat the collections of Part 2. It is twice as enrapturing as the first part. An idea for Part 4 has already been initiated and work will begin on Part 4 as soon as Part 3 is released,” the well informed source spilled the beans.

The fun show Fabulous Lives vs Bollywood Wives dropped today on Netflix, October 18. As soon as the first episode begins, viewers will be in for a surprise as it features none other than Ranbir Kapoor. The actor raises laughs and also wins hearts with his comments on Riddhima Kapoor Sahni, who’s one of the wives on the show.

The viewers see Riddhima and Neetu Kapoor, mother to Riddhima and Ranbir, reacting to the comments of the Animal (2023) actor. Ranbir began by saying, “Riddhima is doing a reality series. I haven’t even…it’s not even dawned upon me.”

He then added, “I have mixed feelings about it. All her life, she has looked down upon movies. Also, she didn’t want to be an actor and now she’s going to be a reality star. She’s muphat, she has no filters. Riddhima is really going to mess it up!”

Riddhima Kapoor Sahni playfully says, “He’s such a dog!” on hearing this statement. Ranbir Kapoor continued, “Being family, we were concerned how she’s going to be on the show. She’s so fiery! It just takes a second for her to pick a fight. We, Kapoors, are always getting into trouble for some reason or the other and you just had another reason for us to be in trouble. So, thank you and kudos!”

At this, Neetu Kapoor said, “(Ranbir) needs a slap.” Ranbir Kapoor then switched gears and stated, “Beyond the politeness, she’s a fighter. The OG wives and the new wives are definitely in for a shock and would advise them not to take her lightly.”

This time, both Riddhima Kapoor Sahni and Neetu Kapoor agree with Ranbir. Riddhima even says, “Love you, Rans!”

Ranbir Kapoor confessed, “I don’t tell her this often but Riddhima, I love you deeply.” Riddhima gets touched and says, “Pagle, rulayega kya?”

Akshay Kumar and Ananya Panday will be coming together for their first collaboration in an untitled film based on India’s top barrister C. Shankar Nair in a power-packed social drama. Joining this collaboration is also popular actor R. Madhavan in a pivotal character. Amid the flm garnering ample attention for its star cast, Dharma Productions of Karan Johar has dropped a major update about the film’s release on social media that has fueled up the excitement.

The film is expected to release next year in the first half as it hits cinema halls on the occasion of Holi, that is on March 14, 2025. Taking to social media, Dharma Movies have taken to its official Instagram handle to share this announcement with its social media fam along with a note revealing the details of the film. Captioning it with the tagline, “Ek Anokhi Kahaani, Ek Unsuna Sachh”, the film is directed by Karan Singh Tyagi. In the note, the makers have shared key details about the movie wherein it reads, “The untitled film on the shocking cover-up of a massacre that pushed India’s top barrister C. Sankaran Nair to fight an unprecedented battle against British Empire.” It added,  “The film is inspired from real life events & adapted from the book “The Case That Shook The Empire” written by Raghu Palat and Pushpa Palat.”

Tamannaah Bhatia was interrogated by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in Guwahati on Thursday regarding a money laundering investigation tied to the HPZ Token mobile app. The app allegedly defrauded numerous investors by falsely promising Bitcoin and cryptocurrency mining opportunities, according to official sources.

The ED recorded Tamannaah’s statement under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act at its Guwahati zonal office.

Sources revealed that Tamannaah Bhatia had received payments for making a “celebrity appearance” at an event hosted by the app company involved in the money laundering case. However, no “incriminating” evidence or charges have been brought against her.

Bhatia had been summoned earlier but postponed her appearance due to work commitments, ultimately choosing to comply with the summons on Thursday.

In the ongoing investigation, the Enforcement Directorate’s charge sheet, filed in March, names 299 entities as accused, including 76 entities under Chinese control. Among them, 10 directors are of Chinese origin, while two other entities are managed by foreign nationals.

The money laundering case originates from an FIR filed by the cyber-crimes unit of Kohima police, which charged several individuals under sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Information Technology Act. The accused are alleged to have deceived “gullible” investors by offering unrealistic returns through Bitcoin and cryptocurrency mining.

With the recent assassination of political figure Baba Siddique, the security around Salman Khan and his family has already been beefed up. However, the Bollywood superstar has now received a fresh death threat which was sent to the Mumbai Traffic Police. Reportedly, they were sent a threatening message on their WhatsApp number, demanding Rs 5 crore in exchange for his safety. The message warned of dire consequences if the payment wasn’t made.

However, reports suggest that the police officials have deemed it as a ‘prank’. According to the authorities, the sender claimed that Salman Khan’s fate would be worse than that of recently murdered NCP leader Baba Siddique if the ransom wasn’t paid. The message also referenced Lawrence Bishnoi, a notorious gang leader who has been linked to threats against Salman Khan in the past. Although the Mumbai Police have dismissed it as a prank, the authorities have also initiated a probe to identify the person behind the threatening message. A police official has insisted that they are taking this matter seriously and are investigating all possible angles. Reports suggest that authorities are working to track down the sender and determine the authenticity of the threat. Police investigations have revealed that the Lawrence Bishnoi gang had planned a larger-scale attack on Salman Khan, posing a credible threat to his life.

For the unversed, the influential politician Baba Siddique was shot in Bandra, Mumbai, outside his son’s office. Four arrests have been made in connection with the case. Readers would be aware that Siddique and his family shared a close bond with Salman Khan and his family.

While Lawrence Bishnoi has made tall claims about being behind the attack, the police are currently investigating the connection. Meanwhile, ample security measures have been taken to ensure the actor’s safety.
