Filmmaker Madhur Bhandarkarbis now turning his lens on Bollywood itself. However, this time the spotlight is on the wives of the stars rather than the stars themselves. With a portfolio that includes critically acclaimed works like Chandani Bar, Page 3, Fashion, and Heroine, Bhandarkar’s upcoming project, Wives of Bollywood, aims to reveal the lesser-known aspects of the glamorous lives of Bollywood’s star wives, complete with scandal, gossip, power struggles, and opulence.

Wives of Bollywood is anticipated to deliver a bold commentary on the social dynamics within the entertainment industry. “There is a lot of speculation surrounding the lives of Bollywood star wives. Our goal is to bring these untold stories, inspired by real incidents, to the big screen,” said Bhandarkar.

Producer Pranav Jain expressed enthusiasm for the project, stating, “We are thrilled to collaborate with Madhur sir again after the success of *India Lockdown*. He has a strong reputation for creating authentic films, and this topic is sure to be explosive, given the intrigue surrounding celebrity wives both at home and in social settings.”

Produced by Bhandarkar Entertainment and P J Motion Pictures, Wives of Bollywood is expected to begin filming early next year.

The highly anticipated film Emergency, starring and directed by Kangana Ranaut, has officially received its censor certificate, clearing a major milestone in its journey to the big screen. The film, which has garnered immense buzz, will see Kangana taking on the role of the former Prime Minister, Indira Gandhi.

Sharing the news on social media Kangana Ranaut tweeted, “We are glad to announce we have received the censor certificate for our movie Emergency. We will be announcing the release date soon. Thank you for your patience and support in.”

The film’s team, along with Kangana Ranaut, is now preparing for the film’s release and will announce the official date soon.

The trailer released in August indicated that Emergency will center on the challenging Emergency period in India during the 1980s.

Written and directed by Kangana Ranaut, Emergency stars her and also features Anupam Kher, Mahima Chaudhary, Milind Soman, Shreyas Talpade, Vishak Nair, and the late Satish Kaushik in pivotal roles. Produced by Zee Studios and Manikarnika Films, the film’s music is orchestrated by Sanchit Balhara and G V Prakash Kumar with screenplay and dialogues by Ritesh Shah.

All We Imagine As Light, the first film from India to compete in the main competition at the Cannes Film Festival since 1994, and which also won the Grand Prix, is all set to have a grand premiere at the MAMI Film Festival tomorrow, Friday, October 18. Today, a press conference was held which was attended by director Payal Kapadia and actor Rana Daggubati. The latter is distributing the film in India.

When asked about the Cannes honour, Payal Kapadia flashed her wonderful smile and said, “The experience was surreal. It took many, many years for it to be made. Hence, being selected in this way was a very pleasant surprise and honour. All of this leads to one thing that I am most excited about is that the film is going to be released in India and that people will go and buy a ticket to watch my movie!”

Rana Daggubati was then asked to do the honours of announcing the India release date. He introduced himself by saying “I am not exactly known for such films”, thus raising laughs. He then revealed, “All We Imagine As Light will have a large, Pan-Indian theatrical release on November 22. It’s a huge honour for us to be a part of this film and bring it to the audience.”

Interestingly, All We Imagine As Light had a limited release in Kerala on September 21 to make it eligible for the Oscars. Rana explained, “For me, it was like a regular Malayalam film. It was not an independent cinema in that sense. With this film, we are trying to break the format of how independent films should be released in India. It can’t take the route of having a wide release and 30 days of promotion. It needs a different cycle. Hence, it started with a release in Kerala. We want to keep moving across states. Tomorrow, there’s a screening at MAMI. There’ll be similar screening in a bunch of states before it releases nationwide.”

Many were dejected when Kiran Rao’s Laapataa Ladies (2024), produced by Aamir Khan, was selected for the Oscars and not All We Imagine As Light. Payal Kapadia was asked about it and she said, “Laapataa Ladies is a great film. Hence, I was happy (with its Oscar selection).”

She added, “It’s a wonderful film. We all saw it and loved it. I also loved Kiran Rao’s previous film, Dhobi Ghat (2011). Hence, I was happy that it’s a film that’s going to go to the Oscars.”

However, Payal Kapadia made people hopeful by confessing that All We Imagine As Light still has a chance at the Oscars, “It’s going to release in the USA on November 15. If you have friends there, please tell them! Once it is released there, the distribution team (can take a call if it can go to the Oscars).”

Former actor and women’s rights activist Somy Ali has extended an invitation to gangster Lawrence Bishnoi for a Zoom call. In a social media post, she directly addressed Bishnoi, who is currently being held in Gujarat’s Sabarmati jail.

In her post, Somy Ali referred to Lawrence Bishnoi as “Lawrence Bhai” (brother) and expressed a desire to have a video call with him. She also shared her intention to visit his temple in Rajasthan.

Somy’s post read, “This is a direct message to Lawrence Bishnoi:
Namaste, Lawrence bhai, I’ve heard and seen that you are making Zoom calls from jail, so I want to discuss a few things with you. Please let me know how this can be arranged? Rajasthan is my most favorite place in the whole world. We want to visit your temple for a prayer, but first, let’s have a Zoom call and finalize a few things before the prayer. Believe me, this will be beneficial for you. Please share your mobile number, it would be a great favor from your side. Thank you.”

Her post follows Lawrence Bishnoi’s claim of responsibility for the murder of former Maharashtra minister and NCP leader Baba Siddique, a close associate of Salman Khan. Bishnoi also issued a warning to anyone associated with Salman. Consequently, Salman Khan’s security has been tightened.

More than 60 plainclothes officers have been deployed around Bandstand and near Galaxy Apartments, working around the clock to monitor any suspicious activity. These officers follow a standard operating procedure (SOP) and keep a close watch on all movements in the area.

Along with deploying personnel, the Mumbai Police have installed AI-powered high-resolution CCTV cameras with facial recognition capabilities. These cameras can identify individuals who pass by repeatedly, triggering an alert if the same face is detected more than three times, indicating possible surveillance or reconnaissance.

Producer Murad Khetani, who is known for delivering some of the biggest theatrical blockbusters in Hindi cinema like Kabir Singh, Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 and Animal, has appointed Akanksha Malhotra as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Cine 1 Studios Private Limited.

Akanksha has over 14 years of experience in the movie industry and incidentally, had worked with Cine1 Studios on the blockbuster Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2. She was also Bollywood star Shahid Kapoor’s agent from 2010-2019, scouting & servicing projects like Padmaavat, Kabir Singh, Udta Punjab for him. Prior to joining Cine 1 as CEO, Akanksha had a successful stint with YRF Talent where she headed films strategy for artists and lead strategic relationships between artists and studios, producers and platforms to also package projects for its actors.

Welcoming Akanksha as the CEO, Murad said, “Movie-making is a dynamic process and Cine 1 Studios has been trying to push the envelope for the past few years to make and deliver films that give people a wholesome theatrical experience. We are excited to welcome Akanksha Malhotra as the CEO and we feel her expertise and skillset is a perfect match for us. Just a day ago, Rakul Preet Singh left her fans concerned when news reports suggested that the actress has suffered a major back injury when she was trying to lift weights which further aggravated when she continued to work out. The actress is expected to have pushed herself a bit too far which has now resulted in bed rest. On Wednesday, as the news about her major injury went viral, the actress took to social media to assure her fans about her recovery and along with that, she also urged her fans about taking of their health.

Rakul Preet Singh took to her Instagram story to share a video dropping an update about her health and also opened up about the lesson she learnt through all of this. She shared, “Well here’s a little health update. I did something very stupid. I didn’t listen to my body. I had a spasm, kept pushing it, turned into a major injury and I have been in bed for the last six days and I think it will take another week or so for me to fully recover.” “I really hope I recover faster than that because it’s not easy for me to give in and rest but it’s a lesson learnt that please listen to your body when it gives you signals. Don’t try to push. I thought that my mind was stronger than my body and it doesn’t always work like that.”, she added. She signed off by concluding, “Thank you so much for all your wishes for people who messaged me and I will bounce back stronger. Lots of love.”

While Rakul Preet Singh always puts her work first, this one seems to have left her with an important message.

On the work front, Rakul was currently expected to focus on De De Pyaar De 2 in which she will reprise the role of the chirpy, carefree Ayesha Khurana. The film will not only mark the return of Ajay Devgn as the lovestruck Ashish Mehra along with R Madhavan also joining this romantic comedy in a key role.

The USA elections, as expected, have become a talking point across the world. The country goes for polls in less than 3 weeks, on November 5, and hence, the cacophony is growing louder as the D-Day comes near. In this election season, a Hollywood film named The Apprentice has released and it has grabbed the headlines as it is based on the younger days of Donald Trump, the controversial Republican presidential nominee. The film is scheduled to hit cinemas on October 18 in India but looks like its release may get delayed.

A special screening of the film was held for the press and select moviegoers at a multiplex in Mumbai on Wednesday, October 16, where the host announced that the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has asked for certain cuts. The makers learned about it and have refused to accept the modifications.

It now remains to be seen if the makers and CBFC are able to reach a consensus. If it happens today or tomorrow, The Apprentice will be released on Friday, October 18, as planned. Or else the host announced at the screening that the period flick will arrive in cinemas next Friday, October 25.

Despite the release date not being fixed, the uncut and uncensored version of The Apprentice was shown to the press and select moviegoers at the special screening. The author was present at the show and knowing how the CBFC works, it is pretty clear that they must have asked explicit sex scenes to be axed from the film. However, a few of them are crucial to the film’s plot and hence, can’t be censored.

Acclaimed director Hansal Mehta presented the film at the screening and raised laughs with his comments on Donald Trump.

The Apprentice stars Sebastian Stan as Donald Trump and Jeremy Strong as Roy Cohn and is about the former’s rise in the real estate sector and also his relation with his lawyer, played by the latter. Maria Bakalova essays the role of Ivana Trump. Directed by Ali Abbasi, The Apprentice premiered at the 77th Cannes Film Festival earlier this year.

During the event Locarno Meets which was also attended by Khan, SRK had addressed the subject of playing a baddie wherein he had said, “I think I have a new way of playing a bad guy”. The comment seems to have gained more momentum after the recent buzz about him returning to such kind of roles with King.

Coming to King, the film is expected to feature an ensemble cast wherein Abhishek Bachchan will play the real antagonist. Along with Suhana Khan, it will also star Munjya fame actor Abhay Verma in a key role.
