Bollywood Hungama had exclusively reported last month that Akshay Kumar-starrer Tirangaa is not a remake of the 1993 film of the same name, starring Nana Patekar and Raaj Kumar. Bollywood Hungama has now learned of another exclusive information about the film – it’ll be directed by Sanjay Puran Singh Chauhan.

A source told us, “The producers of the film – Ashvin Varde, Subhash Kale and Narendra Hirawat – along with Akshay Kumar realized that Sanjay Puran Singh Chauhan will be an apt choice to handle a film like this and give it the required commercial treatment. This is how the acclaimed director came on board.”

The source further said, “Tirangaa is expected to go on floors by December 2024.”

Sanjay Puran Singh Chauhan has earlier directed Lahore (2010) and 72 Hoorain (2023) and both won National Awards. He was also one of the writers of Ranveer Singh’s cricket drama, ’83 (2021).

Sanjay and Akshay came close to working together for a film named Gorkha. It was to be produced by Aanand L Rai and after the announcement, it was shelved. In January 2023, Aanand L Rai told Bollywood Hungama, “Yes, it is true. We are not making this film for now. There are technical issues. There are factual clarifications that need to be made.”

Sanjay Puran Singh Chauhan was also going to make Chandamama Door Ke, a space film starring the late Sushant Singh Rajput.

On August 10, Narendra Hirawat denied reports that Tirangaa is the remake of the old film of the same name. He shared a statement with Bollywood Hungama which said, “In the last few days, there have been a few media reports stating that we are producing a remake of the film Tirangaa with Shri Akshay Kumar in the lead. We would like to hereby affirm that this news is completely baseless and untrue. Yes, we are indeed producing a film with Shri Akshay Kumar in the lead but we would like to categorically state that it is NOT a remake of any film. It is a completely new and original script. An official announcement regarding the same will be made soon.”

While Kartik Aaryan and Triptii Dimri are focusing on their first venture together, the highly-anticipated Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3, even before they wrap it up, it seems that the actors may move on to their next film with each other. For the unversed, Kartik and Triptii will be working back-to-back in two different films belonging to varied genres. The latest update on their second film together is that the untitled romantic drama is expected to kick off in September itself in Mumbai.

Although some reports state that Kartik Aaryan will be busy this month in order to ensure the timely release of Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 in Diwali, according to Pinkvilla reports, it is being said that the actor has also allotted time in the end of this month for this untitled love saga with T-Series. If these reports are to be believed, the shooting will commence on September 24 in the maximum city. A source was quoted confirming the same and adding, “Kartik Aaryan is a big fan of love stories and he is excited to embark on this journey with Anurag Basu. Some script reading sessions have already taken place over the last few weeks and the actor is now all set to don the hat of a love boy for Anurag Basu.”

Meanwhile, we also hear that Bhushan Kumar is pulling all stops to make this love saga into a perfectly musical which will be composed by Pritam. “Bhushan Kumar believes in churning out music that stands the test of time. He is well aware of the importance of music in a love story and is looking to create some evergreen songs for Anurag Basu, Kartik Aaryan, and Triptii Dimri,” the source added.

Speaking further about this yet-to-be-titled project, we hear that the film will be shot in multiple locations within India and that the makers are keen on releasing it by the end of 2025 but no dates have been locked as yet.

The upcoming Binny And Family has been making noise in the industry. It has got a unanimously positive response in the test screenings and from personalities like Subash Ghai, Karan Johar, Ektaa Kapoor, Varun Dhawan, Shashank Khaitan, Mrighdeep Singh Lamba etc., which has boosted the morale of the team. Not waiting to leave any stone unturned, the producers have now decided to push the film’s release by a week. It was scheduled to be released on September 20 and will now arrive on September 27. The postponement happened as the makers wanted to include a special song in the film.

A source told us, “The heartwarming track is composed by Vishal Mishra. The team of the film is thrilled with this song. In order to incorporate it in the film, the makers will take some time and hence, a decision was taken to push the release by a week.”

Producer Mahaveer Jain confirmed this development. He exclusively told Bollywood Hungama, “After watching Binny And Family, Vishal felt quite overwhelmed and deeply connected with the film and its message. Hence, he created this beautiful song with all his love. We are touched and grateful by this invaluable gesture.”

Binny And Family marks the acting debut of Varun Dhawan’s niece Anjini Dhawan. Besides Anjini, it also stars Pankaj Kapur, Himani Shivpuri, Rajesh Kumar, Naman Tripaathy and Charu Shankar and is written and directed by Ssanjay Tripaathy. It is produced by Mahaveer Jain Films and Wavebrand Productions and presented by Ektaa R Kapoor’s Balaji Telefilms, Shashank Khaitan and Mrighdeep Singh Lamba. The film will be released in cinemas by PVR.

The trailer of Binny And Family was launched at a multiplex in Mumbai on August 30. The chief guest at this event was none other than Varun Dhawan. He took the cake with his replies. At one point, he said, “I feel that their generation is very smart. They are also aware and are not living in a bubble. They know that life is quite tough. I remember when I was growing up, people used to tell me many times ‘Aage ka raasta aasaan nahin hai’. The new generation is already aware that the path ahead is difficult and they are even ready to work hard. And they know that even if they commit mistakes, they’ll learn from them. So yes, this generation teaches the older generation. They are already in that phase.”

Sunita Ahuja, the star wife of 90s famous star Govinda, recently was seen showing off her candor in an interaction where she discussed several aspects of being a star wife along with also addressing subjects related to her husband’s career and stardom. In the same interaction, she was also asked about the different reality show offers like Bigg Boss that came her way for being Govinda’s wife, to which the star wife counter questioned if anyone would ask such questions to star wife – Gauri Khan, who is married to Bollywood megastar Shah Rukh Khan.

In the recent session of Timeout with Ankit, Sunita Ahuja responded to being approached for Bigg Boss wherein she also revealed that there have been offers for Bigg Boss OTT as well but refused to participate in it because she asserted that a person with her status should be hosting it and not be a contestant. “They’ve been making me offers for the last four years. For the OTT version as well, the one hosted by Anil Kapoor.  They came to me twice for that, and I told them, ‘Are you mad? You think I clean toilets?’ You ask me this question, but tell me, would you ask Shah Rukh Khan’s wife the same thing? Do you think we’re struggling financially? I don’t even watch Bigg Boss.” She added, “I told them, ‘Do you even know who you’re talking to right now? Come to me if you want me to host alongside Salman Khan’,”.

Netflix has come in defense of its highly-acclaimed Korean show Squid Game which is currently facing plagiarism charges filed by Bollywood filmmaker Soham Shah. The latter, in his lawsuit, has alleged that the basic plotline of the popular web-series is inspired by his 2009 survival drama Luck which marked the debut of Shruti Haasan in Hindi Cinema and featured Imran Khan as the male lead. However, the streaming giant has denied its claims.

As per a TMZ report, after Sohum Shah filed a complaint against Netflix for this ‘blatant rip off’ the latter has issued a statement asserting denial and maintain that the claim has no merit. Furthermore, revealing how Squid Game was created by and written by Hwang Dong Hyuk, Netflix has also added that they would ‘defend this matter vigorously’. Meanwhile, Sohum Shah has taken a firm stand insisting about pursuing this lawsuit. According to his statement, he has pointed out that the main plot, characters, themes, mood, setting and sequence of events of Squid Game are strikingly similar to that of Luck, further adding that such similarities could not be just a coincidence.

Speaking about the show, Squid Game features over 400 contestants, all of whom are in deep financial hardship, as they participate in a secret contest where they play a series of popular Korean children’s games involving a risky twist, making it a matter of life and death. On the other hand, Luck which featured an ensemble cast with Sanjay Dutt, Mithun Chakraborty, Chitrashi Rawat, Danny Denzongpa, among others features a few contestants who decide to get involved in a game of ‘luck’ to get rid of their financial crisis, where defeat is synonymous to death. While Squid Game released its first season in 2021 on Netflix, Luck released in theatres way back in 2009.

Salman Khan fans couldn’t be more excited to see him return to his quintessential commercial avatar and producer Sajid Nadiadwala has promised them that he would deliver just that in his upcoming production. Titled Sikandar, the massy entertainer went on floors in Mumbai for almost a month and half schedule which was also joined by other actors like Rashmika Mandanna and Kajal Aggarwal. Meanwhile, we hear that the makers have decided to make a new addition to the star cast in the form of Sharman Joshi.

Sharman Joshi, who have entertained audiences with many of his avatars including comical ones, is expected to feature in a different role in this A R Murugadoss directorial. Although details of his character are kept under wraps, sources have asserted to Pinkvilla that the actor will be seen in a pivotal role. “Sharman and Salman share a very unique dynamic in Sikandar, and the former has already started shooting for his part in the film. He has been present on the set all throughout and plays a key catalyst in Sikandar’s journey. The film marks the first proper collaboration of Salman and Sharman and the audience are on for a treat to see them share a special bond,” revealed the source.

Ever since the film has gone on floors, the shoot schedule of the film has garnered much attention with recent reports even suggesting about an elaborate festive dance sequence being planned with the film’s leads – Salman Khan and Rashmika Mandanna. On the other hand, it is being said that the shoot schedule of this entertainer will be shifting to Hyderabad once the makers wrap up the sequences in Mumbai. Some of the reports also stated that the film will also be shot in some portions of Europe – especially dreamy sequences of Rashmika and Salman.

It is a known fact that the makers of Sikandar are pulling all stops to complete this entertainer by the end of December, so that they can release it as per the given schedule, on Eid 2025.

Eid and Salman Khan go hand in hand – and why not? The superstar made Eid a mainstream festival for film releases and recorded an undisputed solo run on the period. While Salman is all set to entertain the audiences with Sikandar during the Eid 2025 weekend, we have exclusive information that the fans won’t get to see a Salman Khan film in Eid 2026.

“Instead of Salman, the Eid 2026 weekend will see the release of Shah Rukh Khan’s King. That’s not all, it’s a double-header, as even Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s next, Love and War is aiming to arrive on the same date,” tells a source close to the development, quick to add further that Salman won’t have any film ready for that weekend.

“Salman is wrapping up Sikandar by December 2024 and will start Atlee’s film only in 2025. As everyone knows, it’s a mega-budget entertainer, which will be shot for the whole of 2025 and then take a long time for VFX as well. Salman and Atlee’s next film can arrive only in the 2nd half of 2026, leaving the Eid slot vacant. The industry was well aware of the timelines, leading to multiple announcements,” the source tells us further.

More details of Atlee x Salman are still awaited, as the paperwork for all the talents is underway, including Kamal Haasan, who plays the parallel lead.

Readers would be aware that the Hema Committee Report has created quite the stir in the Malayalam film industry where many renowned celebrities are facing heinous allegations of rape and sexual assault. Considering the uproar, many other regional film industries too have demanded the release of this report in order to bring forth several such unreported cases of crimes, especially against women. Ananya Panday too addressed this report and shared her thoughts on it when she attended the India Today Mind Rocks Youth Summit 2024 in Bengaluru recently.

On September 14, India Today report quoted Ananya Panday talking about the Hema Committee report wherein she appreciated the unity and stand the women of the Malayalam film industry have taken for their colleagues. “It’s very important for every industry to have a committee like the Hema Committee where women come together and start something like that. Clearly, no one else is doing it but women. And I feel there has definitely been some change. As you can see, people are at least talking about the problem. However, there is still a long, long way to go. There are still much bigger battles to fight”.

Elaborating on the impact and how several production houses have started working towards women’s safety, Ananya added, “I see that in our contracts today, there are certain helpline numbers, there are certain clauses that ensure the safety of women and I think that’s very important. Even our call sheets have helpline numbers. You can call and complain to them. Even if you want to complain anonymously. But I don’t think this issue exists only in the film industry. It’s important we address this as quickly as possible.”

“At least stand for something. That’s very important. Don’t talk about everything but choose something you feel strongly about. Like women’s safety is very important to me. I always speak about it. And it’s also important to do it right. It’s not just about speaking. One has to do something. Actions speak louder than words,” she added.
