The festival will mark the first for an female lead actress in India. Kareena will be the only actress to have a film festival. Apart from her, other legendary Indian actors who enjoy this honour are Dilip Kumar, Amitabh Bachchan, who have had a film festival around them. This multi-city film festival will showcase her versatile cinematic journey on the big screen. This is also expected to give her fans a chance to relieve the experience of watching some of her most iconic and outstanding work on the big screen once again.

For the unversed, Kareena has had several blockbusters to her name in her two and half decade long career and some of the award winning pieces include her debut film Refugee, the iconic Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, the blockbusters Jab We Met, 3 Idiots, Veere De Wedding, among others. The actress’ work in films like Chameli, Dev, Omkara, and Heroine were also highly appreciated.

The festival coincides with the release of her maiden production and work of passion, The Buckingham Murders, an edge of the seat thriller that delves into themes of grief and the human desire for closure. The film is directed by Hansal Mehta and produced under Ektaa R Kapoor’s banner Balaji Motion Pictures. After premiering at several film festivals, the film released in cinemas on September 13.

As Tumbbad makes a return to theatres six years after its original release, the horror drama, produced by Sohum Shah Films is all set to continue as a franchise. The leading man of the film as well as the producer, Sohum Shah has raised anticipation levels with his latest official announcement of a sequel – Tumbbad 2. The actor took to social media to share this good news along with a video.

The re-release of Tumbbad has not only revived the magic of this fantasy folklore classic but audiences nationwide have also embraced the film with great enthusiasm. Now with the announcement of a sequel, it definitely has added to the excitement. On Saturday, September 14, Sohum Shah took to Instagram to share a video featuring a scene where a man warns about another disaster that is about to strike. The teaser opens with Vinayak and his son Pandurang, with Sohum Shah’s voiceover delivering a foreboding message: “Samay ka pahiya gol hai, jo beet gaya woh fir laut ke aayega… darwaaza bhi ek baar phir khulega (Time never stops. History repeats itself… The door will open once again).” As the teaser closes, the words “Pralay, Pralay phir aayega (Disaster will strike… it will strike once again)” echo, hinting at the epic scale of the upcoming sequel.

Speaking about the sequel, Sohum Shah expressed his excitement and said, “Tumbbad has been a special journey and a labour of love for us, and to see the love it continues to receive is overwhelming and only ratifies our belief and ethos of Sohum Shah Films, that content is king. With Tumbbad 2, we want to push the cinematic experience and boundaries even further. Prepare for a groundbreaking collaboration as Alan Walker, the Norwegian electronic music artist, teams up with Pritam, the renowned Indian music director, for the first time. Their new pop ballad, “Children Of The Sun,” marks a significant moment in cross-cultural musical projects. Vishal Mishra joins them with his soulful vocals.

Releasing on September 26 via Warner Music India, the track “Children Of The Sun” reflects a blend of Eastern and Western influences. The collaboration began in 2019 when Alan Walker and Pritam met during Walker’s Mumbai tour. Over five years, their shared interest in genre-blending music led to the creation of this new track, inspired by Walker’s travels to India.

Elaborating on the key takeaway from the track Alan Walker expressed, “I first met Pritam in 2019, and ever since, we’ve kept in touch and worked on releasing a track together. I’m really pleased with how it turned out – both the message and how it brings together different sounds and languages. The song carries a hopeful message, showing the creativity and strength of today’s youth, blending cultures and sounds that reflect the world they’ll shape. I’m full of admiration for Pritam, his incredible musical ear, and the way he works. Now I’m excited to show this to the world!”

The track features an 80s synthwave vibe, blending Walker’s electronic beats with Pritam’s composition and Vishal Mishra’s vocals. Its lyrics, inspired by the sun’s symbolism, reflect themes of human connection. The song includes a children’s choir and aims to convey messages of hope, resilience, unity, motivation, and happiness.

Reflecting further on the collaboration, Pritam said, “Music has the power to heal, inspire, and unite. I hope that “Children Of The Sun” will touch the hearts of listeners around the world and bring a message of hope and unity. I am extremely elated to work with Alan Walker on such a meaningful project. To complement the audio release, Walker will embark on his 10-city Walkerworld Tour by Sunburn, starting in Kolkata on September 27. The tour will cover Shillong, Delhi NCR, Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Chennai, Kochi, Pune, Mumbai, and conclude in Hyderabad on October 20. This is one of Walker’s largest tours in India, with an expected attendance of over 100,000 fans, and will feature the live debut of his new track, “Children Of The Sun”.

The success of Amazon Prime Video’s Angry Young Men has made it clear that there’s an audience for documentaries on film personalities and film families. And hence, the industry expects The Roshans to also work big time. It’ll be aired on Netflix and as the name suggests, it throws light on the members of the Roshan family who are or were a part of the industry, that is, composer Roshan, musician-son Rajesh Roshan, filmmaker-son Rakesh Roshan and the latter’s superstar son, Hrithik Roshan. Bollywood Hungama has now learned that the much-awaited documentary will be out very soon.

A source told us, “The Roshans is expected to drop on Netflix in December 2024. The makers along with the core team of the streaming giant would soon decide on a date and announce it to the public.”

An industry insider explained why December 2024 would be an apt time to release The Roshans, “A month later, in January 2025, Hrithik Roshan will complete 25 years as a film actor. His debut film, Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai, was released on January 14, 2000. And that’s not all. The much-loved Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan’s Karan Arjun (1995), directed by Rakesh Roshan, would celebrate its 30th anniversary. Once The Roshans drop, the hype around them would increase and it’ll benefit the anniversary celebrations of these two films, more so, if they re-release, going by the trend nowadays.”

As per reports, director Shashi Ranjan began work on The Roshans in the first half of 2023. It will document their journey and feature interviews of not just the members of the film family but also Shah Rukh Khan, Priyanka Chopra, Vicky Kaushal’s father and action director Sham Kaushal etc. On January 23 this year, Rakesh Roshan posted a picture of him posing with SRK. In the caption, he thanked the superstar for contributing to The Roshans.

National Cinema Day has become a hit concept ever since it was introduced in September 2022. This was when tickets were sold for Rs. 75 and it led to jubilation as almost all the shows across the country went house full. A similar celebration happened in October 2023. This year, the National Cinema Day will be held, too, in less than a week’s time.

A source told Bollywood Hungama, “The multiplexes and other stakeholders have decided to celebrate National Cinema Day on Friday, September 20. As part of the celebrations, all theatres across the country will sell tickets for just Rs. 99. The tickets for the special format classes or screens like IMAX, 4DX, Gold Class, recliner seats etc. would be available for Rs. 199.”

The move will especially benefit the new releases. A multiplex official said, “The two big releases in Hindi next week are Yudhra and Binny And Family and they’ll be at an advantage. The Rs. 99 ticket offer would attract a lot more people for these films than expected. And if word of mouth for them is positive, it’ll lead to healthy collections on Saturday and Sunday, when the rates would be back to normal.” 

Yudhra stars Siddhant Chaturvedi, Malavika Mohanan and Raghav Juyal and is an Excel Entertainment production. Binny And Family, meanwhile, marks the debut of Varun Dhawan’s niece, Anjini Dhawan. It is produced by Mahaveer Jain Films and Wavebrand Productions and presented by Ektaa R Kapoor’s Balaji Telefilms, Shashank Khaitan and Mrighdeep Singh Lamba.

The other new releases will also benefit. Kahan Shuru Kahan Khatam, which marks the acting debut of Dhvani Bhanushali, also releases on September 20. Talking of Hollywood, the animated film Transformers One and Halle Berry’s horror thriller, Never Let Go, will be in for a treat.

Meanwhile, the Marathi comedy-drama Navra Maza Navsacha 2 also releases on September 20. Its first part has a cult following and hence, the franchise value along with the National Cinema Day offer might result in record collections throughout Maharashtra for the sequel. The multi-starrer features Sachin Pilgaonkar, Ashok Saraf, Supriya Pilgaonkar, Swwapnil Joshi and others.

The holdover releases will also enjoy the benefits of the offer. Tumbaad, which had a huge opening yesterday, will see a huge second Friday thanks to National Cinema Day. Stree 2, the biggest hit of 2024, will again have a shot at crossing Jawan’s collections, thanks to this offer. The other older films which will attract audiences in hordes are The Buckingham Murders, Laila Majnu, Rehnaa Hai Terre Dil Mein, Veer-Zaara Thalapathy Is The G.O.A.T., Khel Khel Mein etc.

Interestingly, this is not the first time in 2024 that tickets will be available for Rs. 99 in theatres. As part of Cinema Lovers Day, a similar offer was implemented on February 23, May 31 and August 9.

Raveena Tandon revealed that she feels anxious when asked for photos while alone. She shared on social media that this unease began after a troubling incident in Bandra, Mumbai, where she was wrongly accused of being drunk and causing a car accident—claims later disproven by the Mumbai police.

Raveena recounted an experience in London when she panicked and fled after being approached by a group of fans seeking selfies. On September 12, she posted an apology on social media to those fans, expressing regret for not taking photos with them. She explained that the Bandra incident had left her traumatized, prompting her to steer clear of such situations.

Raveena continued, “I should’ve probably given them a photo as maybe they were innocent fans, but I panicked and walked away fast and just asked a security guy for help. I felt really bad after this incident, and would want to apologise to them through this medium if they are reading, that it was not my intention to offend. I’m really sorry. Hope I can meet you again and click a picture with you, maybe. I try my best to be accessible and normal, but I fail at times. So sorry guys. I hope you are reading this and know that I shouldn’t have panicke.”

In June, a man claimed that Raveena Tandon’s driver had struck his mother and that the actress had assaulted her while drunk. However, police investigations, including a review of CCTV footage from the Khar building where the incident reportedly happened, showed that the women were near the actor’s car but were not hit by it.

An exhibition called Big Cine Expo is held every year where theatre owners, design consultants, equipment manufacturers, system integrators, project management professionals, industry stakeholders etc. come together to celebrate cinema and the exhibition sector. The expo has often been in the news and this edition seems to be no exception. Bollywood Hungama has learned that at the 7th Big Cine Expo this year, 2024’s most successful producer Dinesh Vijan will be felicitated.

A source told Bollywood Hungama, “All the theatrical films of Dinesh Vijan this year – Teri Baaton Main Aisa Uljha Jiya, Munjya and above all, Stree 2 – have been huge hits. Stree 2 especially has gone on to become a blockbuster of epic proportions. Even the other two films did more than what was accepted and these movies gave oxygen to the exhibition sector. Last year, too, he delivered a sleeper hit in the form of Zara Hatke Zara Bachke (2023).”

The source continued, “In short, woh cheez ko haath lagate hai, woh sona ban jaati hai. As a result, it is only fitting that he should be felicitated for his services to the exhibitors, industry and the audience at large.”

The felicitation will take place on the first day of the Big Cine Expo, that is, September 30. And that’s not all. The IMAX Big Cine Awards 2024 will be held the same day where Ramesh Sippy will be given a Special Achievement Award on the occasion of 50 years of his legendary classic, Sholay (1975). The next day, October 1, he’ll also have a fireside chat about the film.

Last year, the Big Cine Expo took place in Chennai while this year it’ll be held in Mumbai. In 2023, Bollywood Hungama was the first to break the news that Boney Kapoor would screen exclusive, never-before-seen footage of his acclaimed film Maidaan (2024), starring Ajay Devgn. A year before that, the 5th Big Cine Expo was also held in Chennai where the attendees got a chance to see exclusive footage of the Ranbir Kapoor-Alia Bhatt starrer Brahmastra (2022).

The Big Cine Expo was not held in 2020 and 2021 due to Covid-19 restrictions. The expo in 2019 was also held in Mumbai where Farah Khan was felicitated.

While the industry is still heating up to the Diwali 2024 clash between Singham Again and Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3, we hear that another clash is brewing in the film fraternity. It’s round 3.0 for Shah Rukh Khan vs Sanjay Leela Bhansali, as after locking horns in 2007, and 2015, the duo are set for another face-off in 2026. According to reliable sources, it’s going to be a face-off between King and Love & War during the Eid 2026 weekend.

“King is an out-and-out action film and Shah Rukh Khan is confident to serve the audience with a potboiler during the Eid 2026 weekend. Just minutes after his decision went digitally, Sanjay Leela Bhansali also took no time to announce the new release date of Love & War. Incidentally, even Love & War got announced for an Eid release,” a source tells Bollywood Hungama.

The source further informs us that both the films are looking to capitalize on the prolonged holiday period of Eid, Ram Navami and Good Friday in the week of release. “SLB was thinking of an Eid 2026 release for the longest time and it’s just a mere coincidence that the thought process coincided with SRK. As they say, great minds think alike, and there is no denying the fact that both SRK & SLB are two of the greatest cinematic minds”

The clash at the moment is on, as Love & War is slated to go on floors in October 2024, whereas King takes the stage from January 2025.
