Akshay Kumar’s highly anticipated film Sarfira is taking flight, with the trailer set to launch on June 18. The announcement came via Kumar’s official Twitter account a while ago.

Details of Sarfira’s story
Directed by National Award-winning director Sudha Kongara, renowned for her exceptional storytelling in films like Soorarai Pottru which won the National Award for Best Feature Film, Best Direction and Screenplay, the bilingual Irudhi Suttru (Tamil) and Saala Khadoos (Hindi), Sarfira ensures a cinematic experience that is as inspiring as it is entertaining, making the film one of the most anticipated releases of the year.

The Mumbai Sessions Court has ordered the Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) police to investigate a cheating complaint filed against Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty and her husband, businessman Raj Kundra, by bullion trader Prithviraj Saremal Kothari.

Details of Shilpa-Raj’s cheating case
Kothari alleges that Shetty and Kundra, through their company Satyug Gold Private Limited, launched an investment scheme in 2014. Investors were promised a specific quantity of gold at a discounted rate upfront, with guaranteed delivery on the maturity date regardless of market fluctuations.

Kothari claims he invested Rs 90 lakhs for 5,000 grams of 24-carat gold, to be delivered on April 2, 2019. However, upon maturity, he reportedly received neither the gold nor the promised value. Instead, he alleges he was offered a postdated cheque for just the principal amount Rs 90 lakhs.
Court finds grounds for investigation in Shilpa-Raj’s cheating case
Judge NP Mehta of the Mumbai Sessions Court found a “prima facie cognizable offence” based on Kothari’s complaint. This means there is enough initial evidence to warrant a police investigation. The court has directed the BKC police to investigate the allegations and determine if any criminal offense under the Indian Penal Code (IPC) or the Maharashtra Protection of Interest of Depositors Act (MPID Act) was committed.
Police to Investigate and determine next steps in Shilpa-Raj’s cheating case
The BKC police will now conduct their investigation into the allegations. If evidence supports Kothari’s claims, they could register an FIR (First Information Report) against Shilpa Shetty, Raj Kundra, and any other potentially responsible individuals.

This development comes amidst ongoing legal troubles for Raj Kundra, who was arrested in 2021 on pornography charges. It is important to note that these are just allegations, and neither Shetty nor Kundra have been convicted of any crime.

Ghum Hai Kisikey Pyaar Meiin has gained a loyal audience over the years and continues to win hearts despite the second generation taking over the Star Plus serial over a year ago. The current storyline of GHKPM

The track revolves around Ishaan and Savi undergoing a divorce and the Bhosle family prepping for Ishaan’s wedding with Reeva. However, the entry of Bhanvar Patil and a few series of events post that has made Ishaan realized that head over heels in love with Savi and is unable to enjoy any of his marriage rituals. On the other hand, Karanvir’s character, Bhanvar Patil, has added fuel to the fire and created a wreck in the lives of Ishaan and Savi. Bhanvar, who posed as a well-wisher Savi, grows obsessed with her and creates havoc. While he is exposed in the recent episodes, he returns to destroy the Bhosle family.

Readers would be aware that followed by the stupendous success of Gadar and Gadar 2, filmmaker Anil Sharma has excitedly announced a third instalment of the romantic action drama. While Gadar 2 too was a continuation of Tara and Sakina i.e. Sunny Deol and Ameesha Patel’s character from the prequel, the third installment too is expected to be a follow-up. In a recent interview, Bollywood Hungama discussed with Ameesha Patel about the possibility of playing a mother-in-law in Gadar 3 and the actress asserted that she would ‘never ever’ play that role.

Ameesha Patel explained that while she took the risk of playing a mother in Gadar: Ek Prem Katha and Gadar 2, she wouldn’t want to ever play a mother-in-law even for the much popular Gadar franchise. She told Bollywood Hungama, “(I will) never play a mother-in-law, ever, not for Gadar brand, not for any other hero, producer, director? Ever.” She went on to describe the climax of Gadar 2 indicating that her onscreen Jeete may not have the same love interest or a love interest in the third installment. She added, “In fact, this was another question that loads of people said that there was no culmination. You know, Jeete (Utkarsh Sharma), the son of Tara and Sakina, kind of had a love interest, and through default, because of the problems faced there, he had no choice but to bring the girl back to India. But if you noticed, there was no acknowledgement from Sakina, and in the final shot of the film, it is only Tara, Sakina and Jeete, the family, hugging each other and the film ends there. It ends with the Taj Mahal shot, which was the memento and the symbol of love of Tara and Sakina. So, it will always be about Tara and Sakina. I don’t think this place for another person to enter. Definitely, I would not play a mother-in-law for Gadar or any other film. That’s for sure. She played a mother for Gadar, because she had complete conviction of the subject.”

She added, “I was like Ameesha Patel took the risk 22-23 years ago, when the entire industry advised her not to. And she took that risk only because she fell in love with other the film script, and by the grace of God, it was executed to the highest level. And then, Gadar rewrote history at the box office in 2001 in June. Similarly, I played a mother again, only for Gadar 2, because it was Gadar and it was a carry forward, right? But would Ameesha Patel play a mother or mother in law for any other brand, any production, any hero, any director, no she would not. So that is definitely a bone of contention”.

Fardeen Khan made a stunning comeback this year with the much-talked-about web series, Heeramandi. Directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, it premiered on Netflix and featured the actor as Wali Bin Zayed-Al Mohammed. However, not many remember that before signing Heeramandi, Fardeen Khan had signed Visfot as his comeback venture. And it has now come to light that this gritty thriller is all set to skip theatrical release and premiere directly on OTT.

A trade source told Bollywood Hungama, “Visfot has been bought by Jio Cinema and it is expected to be out very soon. It is produced by Sanjay Gupta whose directorial venture The Miranda Brothers will also release on the streaming giant. Visfot, however, will be released first on Jio Cinema followed by The Miranda Brothers.”

Besides Fardeen Khan, Visfot also stars Riteish Deshmukh, Priya Bapat and Krystle D’Souza. It is directed by Kookie Gulati and also produced by Bhushan Kumar. It is an official remake of the 2012 Venezuelan film, Rock, Paper, Scissors and as per reports, Riteish plays a pilot whose son gets kidnapped by Fardeen’s character.

The Miranda Brothers, meanwhile, also features Meezaan Jafri and Sahher Bambba and is set in Goa. Its dialogues are penned by Milap Zaveri.

In an exclusive interview with Bollywood Hungama in December 2022, Sanjay Gupta said that both these films were always meant for a digital release, “We were clear that it’ll go straight to digital. We shot those films accordingly. So, from day 1, it was decided that these will be OTT releases.”

He also added, “Nevertheless, despite these films being digital, they are very cinematic. A lot of the content created in India in Hindi which is released directly on the OTT platforms is not cinematic. Usme woh bade parde waali baat nahin hai. I am trying to bridge that gap in my films. When you watch (Visfot or my directorial venture), you’ll remark ‘Yeh bade parde ki picture main chote parde pe dekh raha hoon’.”

The highly-anticipated debut of Aamir Khan’s son Junaid Khan has landed in trouble. The Yash Raj Films and Netflix collaboration titled Maharaj which is inspired by a true story from 1860s will not be releasing until June 18. It seems that Vishnu Hindu Parishad aka VHP has raised objection against the release of the film, claiming that it hurts the sentiments of a religious community.

After reports suggested that the hearing for the same was held in Ahmedabad and Mumbai court simultaneously, it has been revealed that the decision has come from the Gujarat court that the film will not be released until June 18. It is yet to be seen if the stay on the film will be lifted post the given date but the decision will be taken only in the next hearing. Sources have told ETimes that advocate J Sai Deepak is fighting the case on behalf of VHP whereas a team of over 20 lawyers have been assigned from Yash Raj Films to defend the case.

What does the current stay order say?

In the stay order released by the portal, it reads, “Today on Urgency few devotees and follower of Pushti margi Vaishav panth approached Gujarat High Court Vide SCA/8772/24 after hearing of at length Gujarat High Court issued notice to the broadcasting authority, Central board of Film Certification and Producer of the film “Maharaj” Yash Raj Film, OTT Netflix and make it returnable on 18/6, till returnable date high court granted stay on broadcasting release on OTT and media of Movie MAHARAJ”.

Maharaj is based on true events

Directed by Siddharth P. Malhotra, Maharaj is based on a courageous journalist who sets out to expose a revered religious leader and his illegal activities and sexual liasons inspired by the 1862 Maharaj Libel case. The film marks the debut of Aamir Khan’s son Junaid Khan along with Shalini Pandey as the leading lady and Jaideep Ahlawat as the antagonist. The film will be premiering on the streaming platform Netflix.

The big film of the month, Chandu Champion, releases in cinemas today. Starring Kartik Aaryan, the film is based on the incredible life of Murlikant Petkar. The trailer gave an idea of the supporting cast of the film, including Bhagyashri Borse, who plays the romantic interest of the protagonist, albeit in a brief sequence. However, there’s one surprise addition in the film as well, which was kept well-hidden by the makers.

It has come to light that Shreyas Talpade also stars in the film. The talented actor has a special appearance and plays a cop. His character, however, is crucial to the narrative and also helps in taking the story forward. Moreover, he also helps in raising laughs.

Interestingly, Shreyas has had a release every month this year, starting from March. His Marathi film, Hi Anokhi Gaath, co-written by Mahesh Manjrekar, was released on March 1. This was followed by the part-animation kiddie film, Luv You Shankar, which was released in cinemas on April 19. Kartam Bhugtam, directed by Kaal(2005) director Soham Shah, got a release on May 17.

The actor was also in the news last year when he unexpectedly suffered a heart attack. He’ll be seen next in Kangana Ranaut’s political drama, Emergency, as the former Prime Minister of India, Atal Bihari Vajpayee. This will be followed by the multi-starrer comic caper, Welcome To The Jungle. It is all set to release on Christmas 2024. He also has the horror comedy Kapkapiii in his kitty, directed by Sangeeth Sivan, who recently passed away. The film also features Tusshar Kapoor. All these films and a few more will be out this year and thus, Shreyas Talpade will end up having a record 7-8 releases in 2024.

Besides Shreyas Talpade, Chandu Champion also features a special appearance by the charming and talented actress, Sonali Kulkarni. Directed by Kabir Khan, the film is backed by Sajid Nadiadwala’s Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainment.

Cop-Verse has been replaced by Dinesh Vijan’s Cinematic Universe this Independence Day! While the much-awaited third installment of Singham was slated to release on this specific date, immediately after the news of the film being postponed made headlines, makers of Shraddha Kapoor, Rajkummar Rao starrer Stree 2 have unveiled its new release date to be August 15.

It seems that the Amar Kaushik directorial has been preponed by 15 days since it was slated to release by the end of the month. Maddock Films have taken to social media to share the good news about the release date of Stree 2 and have also revealed that the teaser of the film will be unveiled in cinemas on June 14 and it will be attached Sharvari Wagh starrer Munjya which released in cinemas earlier this month. saying, “Iss swatantrata diwas, aa rahi hai #Stree fir se! #Stree2 in cinemas this Independence Day, 15th August 2024. Other releases which will clash with Stree 2

While Singham Again was expected to clash with Pushpa 2: The Rule, if it was to release on August 15, recent reports suggest that Pushpa 2 too may be delayed since work on the film is yet to be completed. On the other hand, the multi-starrer Khel Khel Mein starring Akshay Kumar, Fardeen Khan, Taapsee Pannu, Vaani Kapoor, and others, will be produced by T-Series, have announced its release on Independence Day.

Details about Stree 2

Marking the return of Shraddha Kapoor and Rajkummar Rao to the franchise, Stree 2 is a part of the Dinesh Vijan Cinematic Universe which includes a series of horror comedies including Bhediya and the recently released Munjya. The first installment of this Amar Kaushik directorial was released in 2018 and hence the excitement around this franchise, which marks a return after six years, is quite palpable.

While it was expected to release in August this year, now filmmaker Rohit Shetty has confirmed that the date has been pushed by a few months and it will release on the auspicious occasion of Diwali.

In an earlier interaction with the media, Ajay Devgn had addressed about the delay in the release of Singham Again, wherein he revealed that the film encountered an unexpected delay due to a few portions yet to be shot as well as some post-production work which is still pending. However, this delay seems to have only heightened the anticipation surrounding the project, with fans eagerly awaiting the return of their beloved Inspector Bajirao Singham to the big screen.

The release of Yash Raj Films’ upcoming period drama of Junaid Khan and Jaideep Ahlawat, Maharaj on Netflix, scheduled for June 14, is uncertain. The Gujarat High Court has granted an ex parte temporary stay on the film’s release following a petition filed by a Hindu group.

As per a report in Film Information, the petitioners, reportedly associated with the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and Bajrang Dal, allege that the film portrays a 19th-century Hindu religious leader from Gujarat in a negative light, potentially hurting religious sentiments. This controversy comes on the heels of nearly 10 days of growing tensions surrounding the film.

Maharaj promises to unveil a hidden chapter of Indian history. Set in pre-independence India (1862), the film narrates the courageous fight of Karsandas Mulji, a journalist, and social reformer. Stepping into the shoes of Mulji is Junaid Khan, marking his debut as the son of Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan.

The narrative unfolds against the backdrop of a nation in flux. With just three universities established and the embers of the Sepoy Mutiny still smouldering, India grappled with social and political change. Mulji, a young man studying in Mumbai, emerges as a champion for the marginalized, inspired by his mentor, scholar-leader Dadabhai Naoroji. His unwavering commitment to justice leads him to confront a powerful figure in the infamous Maharaj Libel Case.

Maharaj aims to resurrect Mulji’s bravery and bring his story to a modern audience. However, the film’s portrayal of a Hindu religious leader has sparked controversy. The VHP and Bajrang Dal have reportedly called for a boycott of the film, further escalating tensions.

As reported by Bollywood Hungama previously, these groups expressed concerns about the film’s content in a letter dated June 3rd, addressed to both Netflix and Yash Raj Films. The letter, delivered by Gautam Ravriya, coordinator of the VHP-Bajrang Dal’s Konkan region, claims that the film’s poster suggests a negative portrayal of a Hindu religious leader. This, they fear, could hurt the sentiments of Hindu viewers and potentially lead to a law and order situation.

The letter further demands a screening for the VHP before the film’s global release, suggesting that their future course of action will depend on the content they witness. Ravriya has also taken to social media, uploading videos of himself delivering the letter to Netflix and YRF officials in Mumbai. The videos depict Ravriya asserting that the VHP-Bajrang Dal will not allow the film’s release if they find anything objectionable.
