Directed by Raj Mehta the film has been one of the most talked about releases of recent times. In fact, ever since the release of the film’s trailer the audience have been eagerly awaiting its release.

Good Newwz is keeping its journey steady in its quest to enter the Rs. 200 Crore Club. The film brought in Rs. 3.60 crores more on Sunday, which is around 20% jump over Saturday collections of Rs. 3.06 crores. Though one would have expected the film to touch the 4 crores mark on Sunday, there is quite some competition especially from Tanhaji – The Unsung Warrior which has slowed down the pace a bit for the Raj Mehta directed affair.

Nonetheless, the film is still collecting and that’s what that matters. So far it has brought in Rs. 190.09 crores and now the film begins its journey to accumulate the next Rs. 10 crores in order to enter the Rs. 200 Crore Club. While Rs. 5-7 crores more will come during the current week itself, rest should come from the fourth weekend and that would allow the film to score a double century.

At the Khan family, this is good news indeed as while Kareena Kapoor Khan is all set for her next double century, her husband Saif Ali Khan is enjoying a major success too in the form of Tanhaji – The Unsung Warrior.

Tanhaji – The Unsung Warrior is set to be a good success at the box office. On Sunday, the film jumped further in a big way and that resulted in Rs. 25 crores* more been accumulated at the box office. This is a very good number as it has now put the film on a very solid footing as the first day collections were Rs. 15.10 crores and from there till Sunday, it has been a constant upswing for the Om Raut directed affair.

The film has now collected Rs. 60.67 crores* and that’s the kind of number which befits a biggie on its release. Today is Lohri which means it would be a partial holiday in certain parts of the country, especially up North. This is the region where the film still has good potential for growth and hence the holiday factor will further help its cause.

At the least, one would expect the numbers to stay in the double digit zone today. This means a fall of less than 50% is required when compared to Friday [Rs. 15.10 crores]. Given the kind of appreciation that the Ajay Devgn and Saif Ali Khan starrer has gained so far, that should be possible as well. That said, a number much higher than Rs. 10 crores would be further good news for the film and if that indeed turns out to be the case, Tanhaji – The Unsung Warrior could practically go anywhere.

Deepika Padukone starrer Chhapaak had a fair weekend at the box office as Rs. 19.67 crores* came in. This is after Sunday brought in Rs. 8 crores* more. While this is a jump from Saturday collections of 6.90 crores, ideally a double digit score would have helped.

Nonetheless, the film is now looking at stability ahead so as to register a decent lifetime total. Today is Lohri which means in certain pockets of the country there would be a partial holiday. That should help the collections a bit. As such, Monday numbers need to be closer to the Friday collections if the Meghna Gulzar directed film were to be in the running for three-four weeks. However, going by the weekend trend, it looks like Monday would be in the Rs. 3-4 crores range. That said, if more than Rs. 4 crores come on Monday, it would still indicate a good enough hold.

The film has clashed with Tanhaji – The Unsung Warrior but then that’s okay since the two films belong to altogether diverse genres. Moreover, Chhapaak is predominantly a multiplex film and out there it has been given a good enough release by Fox Star Studios to find enough visibility that should help its cause.

As expected, Chhapaak saw growth on Saturday as Rs. 6.90 crores came in. Since Friday was 4.77 crores, this is a jump of around 50%. The film is performing on expected lines as first day was predicted to be around Rs. 5 crores and second day had to be in Rs. 7 crores range. This is how the film is working currently and now the third day should be in Rs. 8-9 crores range.

The film has so far collected Rs. 11.67 crores, which means a weekend of around Rs. 20 crores is on the cards. Of course, given the kind of stardom that Deepika Padukone enjoys, one would have expected the footfalls to be higher. However, this is basically a non-mainstream film based on a social issue, which means audience base is restricted. Even if one were to look at director Meghna Gulzar’s repertoire of films, Chhapaak is more Talvar than Raazi, and hence to expect it to go the latter way would be a bit unreasonable.

The Fox Star Studio film is collecting on the same lines as Varun Dhawan’s October which was in a similar zone for the same target audiences. That too had collected Rs. 5.04 crores on its first day and then had a weekend of Rs. 20.25 crores. Going by the trends, Chhapaak should see a lifetime of Rs. 40-50 crores, which would be a fair result for the film.

Ajay Devgn can well brace up for a solid hit. His Tanhaji – The Unsung Warrior has shown solid growth on Saturday with Rs. 20.57 crores coming in. It anyways started on a good note with first day numbers of Rs.15.10 crores. Now with the film entering the 20s on the second day itself, it is evident that the film would have an even higher number on Sunday. In fact going by the merits of the film, the film should ideally come close to the Rs.25 crores mark and if that indeed turns out to be the case, the weekend would be solid for the Om Raut directed affair.

The good news for the film is that it is doing well in multiplexes as well as single screens, and that too across cities and the smaller centers. That’s the kind of appeal which this historical war drama carries and owing to some never seen before visuals, the audiences are getting pretty much enticed as well to step in into theaters.

Trending like this indicates good lifetime total for the film and while it is a given that it would join Rs.100 Crore Club in quick time, it has to be seen if the feat becomes possible in the first week itself. For that the first target for the film would be to go past the Rs. 60 crores mark in the weekend itself. If that happens, it would need solid hold on Monday and Tuesday to score a century in real quick time.
