In a tribute to his unparalleled dedication to the nation, its people, and society at large, Bollywood megastar Amitabh Bachchan will be felicitated with the esteemed Lata Deenanath Mangeshkar award. This prestigious accolade, bestowed upon him by the Mangeshkar family, underscores Bachchan’s profound impact on Indian culture and society.

According to a report in The Hindu, the announcement was made on Tuesday, April 17. Bachchan will join the company of previous honorees such as Prime Minister Narendra Modi and singer Asha Bhosle. The award, established by the Deenanath Mangeshkar Smriti Pratishthan in memory of the late Bharat Ratna awardee and singer Lata Mangeshkar, recognizes individuals for their remarkable contributions across various domains.

Alongside Bachchan, several other luminaries will be celebrated with the Master Deenanath Mangeshkar award for their outstanding achievements. Music director AR Rahman, veteran Marathi actor Ashok Saraf, film icon Padmini Kolhapure, singer Roopkumar Rathod, Marathi theatre stalwart Atul Parchure, and acclaimed author Manjiri Phadke will all be honoured for their respective fields. Additionally, actor-producer-director Randeep Hooda will receive a special award for his significant contributions to Indian cinema.

The annual awards ceremony, slated for April 24 at the Deenanath Mangeshkar Natyagruha in Vile Parle, promises to be a momentous occasion. Addressing the press during the announcement, music director Hridaynath Mangeshkar expressed pride in the diverse array of talent being recognized this year. Over the past 34 years, the awards have honoured 212 eminent personalities, showcasing Pratishthan’s commitment to celebrating excellence across various spheres.

The Marathi play Galib will be honoured with the Mohan Wagh Award for Best Drama, while the Deepstambh Foundation’s Manobal project, dedicated to providing residential training to disadvantaged individuals, will receive commendation for its outstanding social service.

With dignitaries, including singer Usha Mangeshkar and Hridaynath’s son Aadinath Mangeshkar, in attendance, the event promises to be a celebration of talent, dedication, and social responsibility.

Bollywood actor and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Ravi Kishan is embroiled in a major controversy. The drama began when Aparna Soni, also known as Aparna Thakur, a resident of Mumbai, held a press conference in Lucknow, claiming that Kishan is the father of her 25-year-old daughter, Shinova. Allegations of denial of parental rights were hurled at the actor-turned-politician, igniting a firestorm of controversy.

According to a report in India Today, in response, Ravi Kishan’s wife, Preeti Shukla, took swift action, complaining to the Hazratganj police station in Lucknow. The complaint, which triggered the lodging of an FIR against six individuals including Aparna Soni, her family members, a Samajwadi Party leader, and a journalist, alleges a conspiracy to defame her husband and influence the ongoing elections.

Preeti Shukla’s complaint reveals intimidation and extortion from Aparna Soni who allegedly demanded a staggering sum of Rs. 20 crore, under threat of framing false rape charges against Ravi Kishan. The FIR, lodged under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, outlines a web of deceit and coercion aimed at tarnishing the reputation of the Laapataa Ladies actor.

Aparna Soni aka Aparna Thakur countered the allegations, asserting that she had sent a legal notice to Ravi Kishan ten months prior, seeking financial support for her daughter’s education, marriage, and future. Denying any association with criminal elements, Thakur expressed dismay at being embroiled in a legal quagmire. She claimed harassment and vehemently denied involvement in any extortion plot.

Amidst the legal battle, questions loom over the veracity of the allegations and the motives driving the protagonists.

South Asian stars in global cinema are celebrating a double win as two of its brightest stars, Indian actress Alia Bhatt and British-Indian actor Dev Patel, have secured a coveted spot on Time magazine’s prestigious “100 Most Influential People of 2024” list. This recognition highlights the global impact of Indian actors and the immense talent they bring to the world stage.

Alia Bhatt, a household name in India, has been steadily carving her niche as a leading actress with critically acclaimed performances and immense audience popularity. Her dedication and talent haven’t gone unnoticed internationally. Tom Harper, the director of her Hollywood debut film Heart of Stone, penned a glowing tribute for the magazine.
Harper described Bhatt as a focused and collaborative artist, praising her willingness to embrace creative risks. He wrote, “I met Alia on Heart of Stone, her English-language film debut. Despite her fame, on set she is self-effacing and funny. There is a grace to the way she goes about her work: focused, open to ideas, and willing to take creative risks. One of my favourite moments in the film came from an improvisation at the end of a take where she took the emotional thread and ran with it.”

Kaluuya reminisced about their early days, filled with youthful enthusiasm and the shared joy of pursuing their acting dreams. He wrote, “He was so full of life, and we both couldn’t believe we were missing school to do this. After Slumdog Millionaire, I went from getting food with him in Wetherspoons to watching him at the Golden Globes, within a month—and he still checked in when he got back.”
Kaluuya specifically praised Patel’s performance in his action-drama Monkey Man, calling it his favorite. In August 2022, the highly anticipated film 100% was announced, featuring John Abraham, Riteish Deshmukh, Nora Fatehi, and Shehnaaz Gill. Billed as a comedic roller coaster with themes of love, marriage, family, spies, and action, the film was to mark director Sajid Khan’s return after Humshakals and had a planned Diwali 2023 release. However, rumors swirled throughout 2023 that the project had been shelved after John Abraham’s reported exit.

Now, in a recent exclusive interview with News18 Showsha, Nora Fatehi provided an update on the film’s status. While not confirming an outright cancellation, she clarifies, “It’s not happening anymore…at least not in the way it was said to be happening.”

The Street Dancer 3D actress revealed the project is undergoing “restructuring and changing certain things,” hinting at a possible revamp. She remains cautiously optimistic, stating, “It might even happen, who knows! Let’s see.”

Jimmy Shergill shared his excitement on the trailer launch, “This is unlike any role that I have done in the past. It has been challenging, to say the least but also immensely satisfying to be part of India’s first war-room-focused series inspired by real-life events that shook the nation. We always read or hear about what happens on-ground during a war-like situation but being a part of Ranneeti allowed me to witness first-hand the strategy, the risk-taking, as well as the emotional trajectory of those who call the shots from inside the war-room. I remember an especially difficult schedule when the entire unit worked for 48 hours with no breaks but not a single cast member complained. We were on no-sleep but the adrenaline rush kept us going and how. It felt like we were right there in the middle of all the action.”

Ashutosh Rana further added to the sentiment and stated, “After every challenging show or film, I always feel like I’ve grown as an actor. Doing Ranneeti has been a crash course in India’s politics and defense philosophy! Chanakyaniti isn’t simply a word but the mantra inside those walls of a war room, when everything is at stake! For a die-hard patriot like me, playing the enemy was not easy. However, it’s roles like these that challenge us as actors.”

Ashish Vidyarthi, spoke about his role and experience of working on the show, “A show and opportunity like Ranneeti comes occasionally. Playing the role of the NSA chief has been challenging but the meetings with a few members of the defence forces really helped me grasp the nuances of my character. The prep work and workshops took me back to my NSD days! Playing a character of that stature is not easy, but Santosh brought the best out of us as actors. He paid attention to every little detail to stay as true and authentic to the characters as possible. “

Lara Dutta who plays a power-broker, spoke about the shooting experience, “The urgency, the split-second decision making and the pressure in a war-room is unlike any other. As actors, being able to translate those emotions in an honest and authentic manner is a tough task. However, when you work with a brilliant team like that of Ranneeti, you grow tremendously as an actor with every single scene and dialogue delivery. Being from an Air force background, working on the show felt close to home. We cannot wait for the audience to experience national pride the way we did, every single day on the set!”

Prasanna, who plays the role of our very own brave heart, Group Captain further added, “It’s been an absolute honor to play the role of a national hero. I just followed the script, but the team who was part of the actual operation created unscripted history with their courage and unmatched love for the nation. I remember feeling actual goosebumps while shooting the scenes when the Group Captain was captured by the Pakistani forces. Meeting some of the members who were a part of the operation was an absolute fanboy moment for me that I will always treasure.”
